Shelf maintenance
A Baas Board can last a lifetime, but it must be maintained to do so. This is not complicated, regular oiling is enough to keep the board in top condition.
Keeping clean
A Baas Board is easy to keep clean. After use, dab up any moisture with kitchen roll or dry cloth, wiping off any residue with a lint-free cloth is usually sufficient for a well-maintained board.
Cleaning
If a board needs more thorough cleaning, it can be rinsed with water but without soap. The board should then be dried upright and, once dry, smeared with a mineral oil or wax.
If the board is really dirty, rub the board with salt and half a lemon, rinse after use and after drying rub it again with Baas Boards maintenance oil or Wax
Resources
This is probably the most versatile cutting board wax of all. Mineral oil does not harden (dry out), making it perfect for all kinds of applications. I also use it to coat my tools, such as hand saws and table saws, as well as the underside of planes. When applied, unlike wax with Tung or linseed oil, it does not harden, so it will not "stick
I use the best mineral oil available and the beeswax comes directly from the beekeeper.Of course, the wax is 100% food safe.
I use this not only on cutting boards, but also on breadboards, utensils, anything that slides and sometimes even as a final finish. Beeswax and oil-based polishes are really so versatile that you can really use it on anything. It doesn't damage wood, in fact, it prevents rust and water ingress on just about anything.
How to apply.
To apply this wax/oil polish, simply use a clean cloth, or even a paper towel if you can't find anything else. Apply a thin layer, wait a few minutes and rub the work with a clean cloth or paper towel. Paper towels tend to leave bits on the workpiece, so keep that in mind. I like to use a lint-free cloth if possible.
Result
Maintained in this way, a Baas Board remains in perfect condition. The board does not dry out, retains its shape, remains free of unwanted odors and flavors and can therefore be used with great pleasure for years.
